HAPKIDO in the UNITED STATES  

Hapkido was formally introduced into the United States in 1964 by then twenty-eight year old, Sea Oh Choi. At that time he held the rank of 5th Dan Black Belt. Though not the first Hapkido Black Belt to immigrate to America, he was the first instructor to open a Hapkido school in the United States. The name of the school was the Hapki-Jujitsu School of Self Defense. It was located at 821 Temple Street in Los Angeles, California. He later relocated his school to 721 S. Western Ave. Master Choi retired from teaching Hapkido in the mid 1970's, at the rank of 6th Dan, to pursue a career in architecture and interior design.

Here is an ealy 1960's photograph of Yong Shul Choi at the conclusion of one of his seminars in Seoul. South Korea. Also in this photo is a young Bong Soo Han and Scott Shaw's first instructor Duk Hyun Son.

It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that Grand Master Danny Williams
passed away on Wednesday, 14^th  Nov. 07.
Grand Master Williams was surrounded by his family, friends,
and was joined world wide by thousands of people who have been sending their thoughts and prayers.

Grand Master Williams had dedicated his life to the powerful art of Hapkido.
Grand Master Williams legacy and influence in the Martial Arts world is almost unsurpassed. More importantly, his philosophies, teachings, and compassionate guidance have touched thousands of people's lives within the Martial Arts world and beyond.

All we request of you at this time is your thoughts and prayers.

GRAND MASTER DANNY WILLIAMS Started training In 1966 With then twenty-eight year old, Grand Master Sea Oh Choi.  Currently there are 3 5th DAN registered with the KI DO HAE outside of Korea....Grand Master Williams is one of them (registered in 2001).
